(UPDATE)

RCMP in the Northwest Territories said Tuesday that they believe their phone systems are working once again.

“Northwest Territories RCMP advise that, to the best of their knowledge, the phone systems for local RCMP detachment “1111” numbers are operating normally. This includes call forwarding for detachments to the RCMP Operational Communications Centre (OCC) in Yellowknife at 867-669-1111,” police stated in a news release.

NT RCMP thanks the citizens of Northwest Territories for their patience as we work to ensure call lines are operational.

We thank our partner agencies for their efforts to address this as quickly as possible.

RCMP in the Northwest Territories reported Monday night that they were having difficulty with their phone lines in several communities as well as at the dispatch centre in Yellowknife.

Mounties say that the phone service disruptions are likely the result of the almost certainly deliberate severing of a fibre optic line between Yellowknife and Behchoko earlier in the day.
