A Behchoko man who pleaded guilty to defrauding the Tlicho Community Services Agency of more than $120,000 is facing two years house arrest when he is to be sentenced on Friday.

64-year-old Joseph Beaverho was in court Wednesday for a sentencing hearing.

He has pleaded guilty to breach of trust, admitting he stole the money over a two-year span from 2010 to 2012.

Beaverho was an official with the agency at the time and was reportedly able to steal the money in connection to his job there.

House arrest means he would only be allowed out of his home for reasons such as a medical appointment, to attend church or to buy groceries.

His lawyer and the Crown prosecutor have put forth the house arrest as a joint sentencing proposal.

The Crown has not asked for a restitution order.

It’s believed Beaverho does not have the means to repay the money.
