Yellowknife RCMP Investigation Wraps Up with Charges to Seven

Yellowknife RCMP wrapped up an investigation into a drug distribution network last week.

Two residential and two non residential warrants were executed by the Federal Investigations Unit over the last few weeks.

Approximately 300 grams of crack cocaine, four firearms, and $50,000 in cash were seized during the execution of these search warrants.

Seven people have been charged after the investigation, including Chantel Mingilgak and Gary Gattie of Yellowknife.

Five of the seven people charged recently moved to the NWT to sell drugs, three already facing serious charges in other jurisdictions.

In the RCMP’s press release, Sergeant Riou said,

This group is part of a larger network operating throughout Canada, and it is concerning that they were attempting to establish a foothold in Yellowknife.  We are pleased our short investigation resulted in the seizure of guns and cocaine, as well as significant proceeds derived from the sale of drugs.
The accused appeared before a Justice of the Peace on Sept. 9th.
