Yellowknife RCMP and the Forensic Identification Unit say they are investigating an alleged sexual assault of a woman near the McMahon Frame Lake Trail.

In a press release Police say they responded to the scene at 6:50pm last Wednesday evening near the Ruth Inch Memorial Pool.

The 56 year old victim was transported to Stanton Territorial Hospital. There’s no report of a suspect at this time.

The RCMP remind the public to practice basic personal safety and be aware of their surroundings and not travel alone.

A public forum was held in 2013 after a string of sexual assaults on and near the trail.

Police do not believe the general public is at risk at this time, but say people who may be homeless or intoxicated could be at an increased risk.
