Yellowknife Plastic Bottle Reduction Pledge

Picture of plastic bottle

The City of Yellowknife is being asked to reduce its plastic bottle usage. Ecology North has written a letter to Mayor Mark Heyck, asking the city to sign up for its pledge #loveNWTwater.

The organization wants the city to start encouraging residents to drink water from the tap or water fountains. The pledge also asks for the city to stop providing water bottles at special events.

While Councilor Niels Konge supports the initiative, he is concern about the cost and the toll it would take on local businesses.

The debate surrounding this issue will be further discussed in coming weeks.
