The Northern Frontier Visitors Centre in Yellowknife is expected to close by May,15 due to its building slowly sinking.

Four Yellowknife regular MLAs are calling on the government to take immediate action to find a solution.

“It is inconceivable that Yellowknife would not have a visitors information centre” said Julie Green, MLA for Yellowknife Centre.

Regular MLAs are proposing that the GNWT work with the City of Yellowknife to secure a temporary location, that the GNWT cover costs of relocation and adequately fund NFVA’s operation of the Centre; and that it provide funds for the demolition of the existing building and remediation of the site.

More than 50,000 people visited the Centre in 2016.
