Woman dies in Yk fire

A 55-year-old woman is dead following an apartment fire in Yellowknife early Saturday morning.

According to a news release from the city, firefighters responded to an alarm at the building on 46 St. just before 1:00 am.

Crews found heavy smoke and sprinklers activated in one of the units.

A woman was taken from the apartment and transported to Stanton Territorial Hospital where according to the city, she succumbed to her injuries.

Her name and cause of death have not been released.

The city says a second occupant of the unit also went to hospital with minor injuries.

The NWT Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.

RCMP and the coroner’s office are also investigating.
