Windstorm in Paulatuk Causes Power Outages

Paulatuk is picking up the pieces after being hit by a huge windstorm late Sunday afternoon.

The storm resulted in power outages across over half the community losing power. One house in the community has also been badly damaged, with the roof being basically torn off.

Finance manager Larry Dalley says the community has been keeping together, by coming together.

The school was on the side that had power so a number of people went there. There are local people now volunteering and cooking meals there because no one has eaten since last night.

Dalley says a Northwest Territories power worker was flown into town Monday, and expected power to be back up later that night.

When contacted Tuesday, SAO John Holland said the power was up and running and everything was more or less back to normal.
