Traffic started flowing on the Tlicho Winter Road on Thursday afternoon between Whati and Behchoko.

Whati Assistant SAO Pushp Seph says people were excited to pick up their new vehicles and head to Yellowknife for groceries.

“The department of transportation came in and did an inspection on Monday. The road is fairly good so they opened for 7000 kilograms on Thursday,” explained Seph.

The Whati section of the Tlicho winter system is two days ahead of schedule. The Gameti portion is expected to open next month.
