Tragic KFN fire investigation continues

The Katlodeeche First Nation is in shock after a tragic fire Wednesday night.

The blaze which left one person dead, and a woman in hospital is being investigated by the Hay River RCMP, Northwest Territories RCMP Forensic Identification Unit, Northwest Territories RCMP Major Crimes Unit, the Office of the Fire Marshall and the NWT Coroner Services.

According to a press release, Hay River RCMP arrived on the scene first at 5:30pm Wednesday evening, and the house was engulfed in flames.

The Hay River Fire Department was able to contain the fire, allowing no damage to neighbouring properties. After the fire was extinguished, members of the HRFD were able to enter the building and found one person dead.

Weather slowed down the arrival of investigators traveling from Yellowknife on Thursday. Police and Fire officials say no further details are available at this time, as their investigation continues.

Donations are being accepted for the family of the deceased at the KFN office.
