For the first time in 151 years, the Treaty 5 group met at the end of January in Winnipeg to begin working on a framework that would organize the Chiefs into an entity that would work government to government with the Feds.
Former Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, and Finance, Michael J. Miltenberger spoke with CKLB Radio about the need for the Treaty 8 groups to organize as well.
“Treaty 5 Chiefs have broken trail”
For the folks down river from Site C Dam, so many were disappointed at the BC Government’s approval of the dam. In particular the Treaty 8 groups down river from the massive hydro electric dam. The BC Government decided early on that they needed to consult with groups within twelve kilometers down river from the Site C Dam. That left out more than a few First Nations bands and none of those outside the 12 kilometers were consulted on Site C Dam.
