Yellowknife RCMP say the search continues for a 65 year old hunter east of MacKay Lake. Family and friends have told CKLB the missing hunter is Joe Black of Behchoko.

Police say he was hunting with 8 hunters near Portage 21 on the Gahcho Kue Winter Road, when they were separated on Monday. Black was last seen on a blue Polaris snowmobile.

“A team of volunteer searchers left the community on Monday,” Behchoko Fire Chief Rene Camsell told CKLB. Blizzard conditions have hampered the search effort.

A C-130 Hercules aircraft from the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, joined the search on Tuesday.

RCMP were notified late Monday afternoon that Black had not returned. The search area is 150 kilometres north east of Yellowknife.

Anyone who has been on the ice road near Murdoch Lake, or flown over at low level are being asked to share any information with the Yellowknife RCMP by calling 867-669-1111.
