Search Continues For Missing Boater in Whati

A search camp has been established near the lake shore in the Tlicho community of Whati, after a middle aged was reported missing Sunday evening. The man’s name is being withheld  out of respect for the family at this time.

“The man was noticed missing Sunday evening, and his boat was found floating upright with his gear and outboard still in the water,” Chief Alfonz Nitsiza told CKLB Tuesday afternoon.

A lot of community members are currently traveling to Lac Ste Anne in Alberta for the annual pilgrimage.  Staff in Whati confirm another coordination meeting was held this afternoon in the main government building. Community members found the man’s boat floating further out on the lake from the community later on Monday.

“There was a lot of water in the man’s boat, we have had some storms and a lot of rain lately,” said Nitsiza

Military aircraft are now part of search effort, and community members and RCMP have been coordinating search and rescue crews on land.
