Housing Minister Caroline Cochrane announced the opening of two housing units in Fort Smith on Wednesday.

A press release issued by the Government of the Northwest Territories says the new housing units were built by the Salt River First Nation under the Community Housing Support Initiative.

The Community Housing Support Initiative was designed by the GNWT Housing Corporation to address the housing crisis in communities in the Northwest Territories and provide support to community housing projects.

The two housing units cost nearly four hundred thousand dollar to build and will allow residents of Salt River First Nation to have the opportunity to own a home.
