Romeo Saganash on Bill C-262 and Indigenous Rights

The Liberal government has announced that they will back Bill C-262, a piece of legislation demanding the implementation of the UN Declaration of Indigenous Rights.

What that means for Indigenous people, MP Romeo Saganash says, is another step towards reconciliation and a recognition of rights.

Bill C-262 implements that call to action 43 as well as 44 which calls for a national action plan for the implementation of the declaration. It’s really about justice, but it’s also about reconciliation and the human rights of indigenous people in this country.

Saganash was a driving force behind Bill C-262, and he says although he is a part of other important proceedings this week, his mind is largely focused on next week’s debate.

The first debate over Bill C-262 will be on December 5.
