Poor Air Quality Around the Northwest Territories

Fires raging in multiple locations south of Great Slave Lake

You likely noticed the air quality was a little less than ideal this weekend.

Due to wildfires in the South Slave Region, smoke is blanketing many areas in the territories.

Due to this, many communities – including Yellowknife – have been issued a special air quality statement from Environment Canada.

Statements were also issued for Fort Resolution, Lutselk’e, Fort Smith, Wekweeti, Whati and Behchoko.

The smoke could cause difficulties breathing, headaches and reduced visibility. Health professionals suggest you should try to remain indoors, and if your conditions get bad, visit your local emergency room.

The fires, south of Great Slave Lake, are expected to continue burning this week.
