Premier issues “Red Alert” over future of Oil and Gas in NWT

Premier Bob McLeod with Reporters in Ottawa.

Premier Bob McLeod is issuing a “red alert” calling for an urgent national debate on the future of the Northwest Territories in Ottawa this week.
“The promise of the North is fading and the dreams of northerners are dying as we see a re-emergence of colonialism,” said McLeod in a written statement on Wednesday.
The Premier took aim at policies from the South that is putting everything the North has built in jeopardy.
McLeod is taking issue specifically with the Trudeau government’s decision to halt oil and gas development in the Arctic last December because of the possible “cataclysmic” outcome of an oil spill.
He says the restrictions  “40 percent of our economy” are driving away business.
McLeod is in Ottawa this week hoping to get some answers about this.
