Mantla murder trial continues Monday

The first degree murder and attempted murder trial for Yellowknife resident Kevin Mantla continues Monday.
Court heard graphic testimony Friday from Doctor Dwayne Coad,  the emergency room physician who was on duty at Stanton Territorial Hospital on September 28, 2015. the night Mantla’s ex and her boyfriend were attacked.
The doctor testified that the woman’s right hand was nearly severed and that she had stab wounds to her left hand and elsewhere on her body.
Coad, who testified via video, said despite her serious injuries, the woman was stable and able to be medevaced to Edmonton where she eventually recovered.
Mantla, 36, is charged with the murder of Elvis Lafferty and the attempted murder of the woman.
Her name is protected by a publication ban.
Mantla’s judge-alone trial is to resume Monday in front of Supreme Court Judge Louise Charbonneau.
