A Yellowknife man is charged with theft after the recovery of diamonds allegedly stolen from Diavik Diamond Mines.

According to a news release from the RCMP, Mounties received a report from Diavik last month about the suspected theft of diamonds.

Police investigated and say they recovered the diamonds.

They have not said whether the suspect is an employee at Diavik, but do describe it as an internal theft.

RCMP have not put a dollar value on the stolen diamonds.

39-year-old Samson Mkhitaryan is facing two counts of theft over five thousand dollars.

He is to be back in court on April 17th.
