Over a 3 day period last week, Hay River RCMP and the “G” Division Federal Investigations Unit Northwest Territories RCMP conducted a drug enforcement operation in Hay River.
A total of 11 people have been arrested with a warrant out for one more.
Cocaine, Morphine, GHB, Codeine, cash and a prohibited weapon were found.
Matthew Poitras (35), Starr Martel (24), Clayton Waniandy (30), Cory Beaulieu (20), Isaiah Durham (19), Luke Dagneault (20), Fred Lafferty (42), Lyndon Antoine (25), and Bradley McAruthur (37) have all been charged with various trafficking violations. A male and female, unnamed and released via Promise to Appear, have also been charged.
Sergeant Dean Riou of the Federal Investigative Unit was quoted saying
The focus on this operation was the interruption of an illegal drug trafficking network operating in the community of Hay River. We are pleased that we were able to interrupt this illegal drug network in Hay River, however, we are disheartened to see the number of individuals that are involved in this type of harmful activity
Out of those charged, Matthew Poitras and Clayton Waniandy remain in custody.
The remaining accused persons have been released before a Justice of the Peace.
