Indiecan 20K is coming North to the NWT!
The announcement was made at Friday’s Yellowknife International Film Festival Gala.
Avi Federgreen first started the film funding program in 2014 called IndieCan 10K.
“I reached out to all the sponsors in Ontario that have helped me get support for first time film makers, and without hesitation when asking for the NWT they said yes,” announced Federgreen.
Federgreen now has a mix of Southern contributions and Northern support from Northwestel to make it happen.
He is partnering up with NWT filmmaker Kirsten Carthew, and will be co-mentoring NWT submissions.
“I wouldn’t have stuck with this for the money, I’m a  filmmaker because I love the art of telling stories,” Federgreen added.
Indiecan 20K is accepting NWT submissions until October 31st.
Federgreen will announce the Indiecan20K NWT winner in December. The filmmakers then must shoot and complete their films by April 30, 2018 with the goal of reaching the 2018 film festival circuit.
