With the launch of the South Slave 2018 Arctic Winter Games on Sunday, the Northwest Territories RCMP have been taking measures to ensure the safety of all participants and visitors.

A press release issued by the Mounties, says additional law enforcement has been sent to both Hay River and Fort Smith.

“The RCMP’s role is to provide a safe and secure environment for athletes, visitors, and volunteers for the 2018 Arctic Winter Games. Remember, play hard but play safe and good luck to all athletes,” said NWT RCMP Media Relations officer Marie York-Condon.

Police are also working with Alberta RCMP to patrol the roads and ensure people are engaging in proper road safety.

The Arctic Winter Games began on Sunday and wraps up Saturday, March 24th.
