Fort Good Hope Housing Forum Kicks Off

The housing forum in Fort Good Hope kicked off yesterday, with ministers on hand including Carolyn Cochrane the housing minister.

Ministers on hand commended the community for taking action and putting their own funding into a housing plan.

The situation is dire in Fort Good Hope, as Janelle Pierrot says, almost everyone in the community is directly affected.

About 40% of the houses are in need of major repairs and the housing crisis effects virtually everyone in the community. If they don’t need housing they are likely housing others in overcrowded conditions, providing emergency housing or are in need of some kind of repairs. It impacts the education of our children and adults.

Jannelle says its going to take coordination between community, territorial and federal government for a long term solution to the problem.

The forum continues through Friday evening.
