UPDATE – Dettah Road re-opens as RCMP continue to investigate fatal motor vehicle accident

***UPDATE 1 PM***

RCMP and City of Yellowknife Fire Division have confirmed the death of an adult male from Yellowknife. Officials responded to a single motor vehicle crash around 8:30 am. The sole occupant of the vehicle was transported by ambulance to Stanton hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The road to Dettah has re-opened to light traffic.

Yellowknife RCMP and the City of Yellowknife Fire Division are attended the scene near Highway 4.  The road was temporarily closed until shortly after 11 am Thursday morning.

The condition of those who were in the vehicle is unknown at this time.

Several emergency vehicles arrived at the scene shortly after 9am.

Dene National Chief Bill Erasmus says thoughts and prayers are with those involved in the accident.

The leadership meeting will resume before noon.
