A man in his mid-30’s from Whati, NT is dead after a fatal collision Friday morning on highway 3 outside Yellowknife.

Sources including relatives of the deceased reached out to CKLB, after the highway re-opened to traffic before noon.

Mark Phillips is a teacher at Chief Jimmy Bruneau school in Edzo. He passed by the scene on his drive to work this morning.

“There were a couple trucks on the side of the road with their hazards on. And there was another truck with some pretty bad damage to the front of the vehicle, and then further up there were more vehicles stopped and a police truck further up the highway and one at the damaged truck,” said Phillips on Friday.

A spokesperson with the Department of Infrastructure says all debris has been cleared, and confirms the accident happened near kilometre 311.

Yellowknife RCMP are still investigating the fatal collision. They have not released the name of the semi-truck driver, or the deceased at this time.
