Murder charges against two of the four suspects charged in connection with the death of a man in Hay River late last year have been downgraded.
Sasha Cayen, 25, is now charged with manslaughter and robbery while co-accused Tyler Cayen, 32, is now charged with accessory to murder after the fact and robbery.
Levi Cayen, 20 and James Thomas, 26, both remain charged with first degree murder in the death of Alex Norweigan, 25, last December 27th.
His cause of death has never been released.
It is believed all four suspects are cousins.
They all appeared in Territorial Court in Yellowknife on Tuesday, the three men via video from the North Slave Correctional Centre (NSCC) while Sasha Cayen appeared in person.
All four are to be back before the courts on May 29th.
A date or dates for a preliminary hearing(s) may be made at that time.
There is a ban on the publication or broadcast of any evidence in the case.
Sasha Cayen also appeared in Supreme Court for a bail hearing on Tuesday.
Piche argued against releasing her from the women’s correctional facility in Fort Smith while her lawyer Charles Davison says Cayen meets the criteria for release on bail.
Judge Karan Shaner will release her decision on whether to grant Cayen bail on Friday afternoon.
It is not yet clear whether any of the other suspects are seeking bail.
Thomas elected on Tuesday to be tried by a judge and jury.
He is the only one of the suspects who has made any election so far.
No pleas have yet be entered by any of the accused.
