At the Western Canada Games earlier this month in NWT’s Celena Hoeve won a silver medal in the event – Balance Beam.
The event is part gymnastics.
She was about 2 and a half when she started in the gym.
Her coach, Desiree Gautreau, says the balance beam is the most difficult event in gymnastics.
And the beam is where her talents shine.
On the beam she has to perform a series of skills without any wobbles, balance checks, poor techniques, or tumbles.
The balance beam is about 4 inches wide.
Made out of wood and steel, covered by a basketball like surface.
Gautreau describes the progression on how Hoeve made it to the beam.
