$499, 872.07 at annual fur auction in Finland for NWT trappers

The annual fur auction in Helsinki, Finland drew nearly half-a-million dollar in sales for NWT wild furs.

The Saga, American Legend and Fur Harvesters auction yielded strong results for Denendeh trappers as they will receive their largest payout in two years. It nearly doubles the total from 2016’s auction.

In a press release Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment Wally Schumann said he’s “committed to supporting and growing the international visibility of the Genuine Mackenzie Valley Fur brand to grow and protect the economic and cultural returns from the territory’s original economy.”

Marten — the NWT’s top-selling pelt— made up more than $430,000 of the take.
