2017 NWT Pride Festival kicks off today in Yellowknife

The 6th annual NWT Pride Festival starts in Yellowknife this evening.

The very festive event opens tonight with Queerlesque, with the doors opening at 8pm and the show at 9pm.

Tonight’s show will be at the Closet, which is located under Coyotes, in downtown Yellowknife.

The popularity of the Queerlesque show is large, as tickets for Friday’s show, also at the Closet are sold out.

NWT Pride President Ja’ckie Siegel says the weekend is full of events for all the community to enjoy and to support the LGBTQ2S community.

On Friday, there will be cupcakes at the post office from 12 pm to 1pm ,  and the hosts  will have a free barbeque at Sombe Ke park starting at 5pm.

Saturday is also a big day for the festival.

Siegel says things get started at noon, with the Pride Festival and Rainbow Market.

It will run until 3pm at the Folk On The Rocks site.

The whole family is invited to participate at the windup of the Festival free of charge.

This event will feature a beer garden and start at 7pm at the FOTR site as well.

Siegel adds SC Mira will be the featured performer.
