Chief and Council election campaign under way in Liidlii Kue

The chief and council election for the Liidlii Kue First Nation is underway in the Dehcho region.

It is shaping up to be quite the race with four candidates running for chief and 15 running for the eight seats on council.

Current Chief Gerry Antoine is being challenged by former Dehcho Grand Chief Herb Norwegian, former sub-chief Steven Jose, and Howard Hardisty.

The community is more commonly known as Fort Simpson, where the Mackenzie River and Liard Rivers meet.

An all candidates forum is scheduled for August 23rd next week at the Recreation Centre in Fort Simpson at 7pm, with an tasty incentive to attend. LKFN is hosting a bbq before the forum, firing up the grill at 6pm.

Election Day is slated for August 28th from 11am-7pm.

A mobile poll for elders and those with physical disabilities will be held on August 21st.
