According to a release from RCMP in BC, officers responded to a collision on Sunday. It was near that scene that a man discovered Martel’s body nearby on the side of the road.
Martel had left a voicemail for family last week, saying she had hitchhiked to BC.
The latest update from Merrit RCMP does not share her identity, only that she had connections to the South Okanagan area.
Officers say the death does not appear suspicious, but they have not ruled it out based on the circumstances of how she was found.
Merritt RCMP and the BC Coroner continue their investigation. No statement has been released by Martel’s family yet.
