The days of massive mega projects like hydroelectric dams and oil and gas projects are over says former Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, Michael J. Miltenberger.
Along with an analysis of the costs of the Site C Dam in dollar amounts Miltenberger says that the final Site C report released November 1st by the BC Utilities Commission has a few new additions that were missing from the processes of the former BC Liberal government.
He says the report finally places the proper weight on the negative impact on Treaty 8 people and Metis people down river from the Site C Dam said Miltenberger. Over 70 First Nations heritage sites, including burial grounds and places of cultural and spiritual significance would be submerged should Site C be built.
BC Hydro’s job was to make it happen (Site C Dam) and it bypassed all the systems which were meant to provide checks and balances on the project.
The BC government is expected to release its decision on the controversial Site C project this December.
